Donning the colour

I remember the house system when I was in school. Students are allotted a house and the athletes are to don the color dress associated to that house.

Needless to say, wearing a team colour and supporting the team from the gallery is the most thrilling feeling one could ever experience.

On the field and off the field, players and the spectators experience the same level of mental feeling fear, anger, sadness, joy, anticipation and surprise.

House system which starts in school days gives the human an identity which is unique to him. In tamil language there is a saying ஆள் பாதி ஆடை பாதி which means human personality is judged by physical appearance and the clothes a man wear.

Interestingly, many teams own same colour dress codes. In 2019 ICC Worldcup played in England, a match against England, Indian team was asked to wear orange/blue jersey rather than their team jersey blue. This decision was taken by International Cricket Council as the host England team colour is also blue.

Following this change in dress colour many newspaper headlines and internet social media site’s title lines looked something similar to this..

“World Cup 2019: Fans divided as India don orange jersey against England”.
